TV-Cabinet
These last few weekends I've spent some of my spare time building a TV cabinet. When we bought the TV last December we soon found out that the TV picture was too low when sitting in the couch. Some of the picture got covered by toes if we had the feet on the coffee table (something I like to do). I just never got around to build something to lift up the TV until recently.
Since the TV is sitting on a built-in base it didn’t require much of a lift, about 6 inches or so. I also wanted to cabinet to hold all the stereo components to get rid of some other furniture in the living room. The build itself was relative simple, since it was mostly straight lines and cutting.
TV fits well and the ugly silver colored base is covered.
The build
So with a little vacation time at the end of August I got started. One of the things that took most time was to build a couple of doors that would cover the base of the TV. I used plywood with a birch finish for most of the cabinet, but had to use some pine trim to cover the ends. I stained the cabinet with a red oak color stain to match my CD / DVD stands.
Here I am finished with the base, only staining of the doors left.
After the stain dried we moved the cabinet in the living room, and moved in the TV and all the stereo components. All I got left now is to determine what to do with the doors to allow the speakers
Personally I like the looks of the cabinet, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion so don’t be shy, post yours.
